Six Reasons to Take Kids Holiday Shopping (at GTGH)

While you might typically be inclined to leave the kids (or grandkids) at home while you do your holiday shopping, the Gifts That Give Hope (GTGH) Alternative Gift Fair is different. Here are six great reasons to bring children or grandchildren along to GTGH:

1.) It’s totally kid-friendly – nothing fragile or delicate to get broken or knocked over at GTGH. Just donations to worthy non-profit organizations. So no need to worry!

2.) Gifts That Give Hope provides a “teachable moment” to talk with kids about the importance of reaching out to help others and about gifts other than video games, toys and the latest electronic gizmo.

3.) It’s a great place for kids to learn about a variety of social and environmental issues from all of the nonprofit organizations that will be there. (There will be a kids’ scavenger hunt that gives them a chance to visit many of the nonprofit organizations’ tables and learn about what they do)

4.) Kids can do some of their own holiday shopping there too, with the “kids shopping list.” (BONUS: this is another teachable moment to talk about alternative types of gifts that KIDS can give to others)

5.) Kids can meet a local 12 year old girl who started her own charity when she was 10 years old, called Alyssa’s Bedtime Stories Kids can learn directly from Alyssa about how she saw a need in the community and decided to do something about it.

NOTE: Be sure to have your child (or grandchild) bring a new or gently used children’s book to donate to Alyssa’s Bedtime Stories. Another teachable moment…

6.) Finally, the fair offers lots of terrific children’s activities courtesy of
Lancaster Creative Reuse,

The Lancaster Science Factory,

Music Together Lancaster,

Your Language Connection,

Lighten Up Lancaster County Coalition,
Alyssa’s Bedtime Stories (remember to bring a children’s book to donate!!)

So there you have it….
Kids. Holiday Shopping. A Great Combination (but only at GTGH). Who knew?

The Gifts That Give Hope Alternative Gift Fair is this Sunday, November 20, 10am – 4pm at the Farm & Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Road in Lancaster.
Be there.
