Profound Reconciliation

Profound Reconciliation

On this anniversary, a powerful message from two mothers, with what one describes as “an unusual friendship.” Phyllis Rodriguez had a son who died in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Aicha el-Wafi is the mother of Zacarias Moussaoui, who was convicted of being involved in the 9/11 terrorist plot.

When Zacarias Moussaoui was convicted and the US government sought the death penalty, Phyllis and her husband spoke out against that. Phyllis saw Moussaoui’s mother in the media and wanted to meet her. Through human rights organizations, the two women met in November, 2002. Through a circle of reconciliation and a deep friendship that has grown since then, they came to a place of healing and profound wisdom.

Whatever else you might choose to watch or listen to today, I humbly ask that you click here to take 9 minutes and 54 seconds to watch and listen to their words of wisdom for the rest of us. Their example is the world I dream of. Pass it on.
